In 2012, Korean husband-and-wife designers Hyunjin Sa and Sueyon Kang had a simple desire to create something together and share it with the world. They were not chasing a trend or trying to fill a market gap. They just wanted to connect with other people with the same sensibility, a motivation that inspired the name of their brand SAMO ONDOH—two Korean words that translate to “same temperature”.
Today, SAMO ONDOH has built a following that stretches far beyond South Korea across Asia, Europe and North America. They have become known for bags that balance practicality with personality, combining thoughtful functionality, playful details, and a distinctive visual identity.
What began as a deeply personal creative endeavor evolved into an internationally recognized brand. One that has not lost sight of the values that sparked its beginnings.
Shaping a creative world together
SAMO ONDOH established its own creative identity before considering broader market needs and customer preferences. In many ways, SAMO ONDOH's growth mirrors its founders. "When we started the brand in 2012, we simply wanted to show the world something we had created," they shared.
This inseparable relationship between Sa and Kang and their passion project has shaped SAMO ONDOH's evolution over the past 15 years, while maintaining the curiosity and positivity that have driven the brand’s success. “From the beginning until now, SAMO ONDOH’s mission has been deeply personal,” they explain. “As we grew, the brand grew with us.”
The balance between playful and practical
The fashion genre attracted SAMO ONDOH’s founders because of its artistic potential. But they soon discovered that a lovingly designed product that becomes a cherished possession requires more than creative self-expression. They explained, “What makes fashion interesting is that it is not complete just from the creator’s expression alone. A product is only truly complete once it has been chosen and used by a customer.”
Sa and Kang describe their design philosophy as finding the sweet spot between “playful” and “practical”, and this belief lies at the heart of every SAMO ONDOH creation.
This balance helps explain the brand’s broad appeal. Even though Sa and Kang have never worked with any specific demographic in mind, SAMO ONDOH’s products are owned and, most importantly, used by customers across age groups, cultures and lifestyles.
"We believe that if people can share and relate to the same sensibility and temperature, anything is possible regardless of gender, age, or nationality."

From Seoul to the world
SAMO ONDOH's international growth followed a similarly organic path. There was no global expansion strategy. They merely created, observed how customers responded, adapted and adjusted.
As international orders began coming in, it became clear that SAMO ONDOH’s appeal extended far beyond the shores of South Korea.
The worldwide rise of K-pop and Korean culture also helped showcase the brand to new audiences. SAMO ONDOH’s bags and accessories were also seen on well-known K-pop artists propelling the brand into global pop culture consciousness.
However, this growing demand for SAMO ONDOH brought new challenges. Figuring out international logistics became a critical concern for the small independent brand that was selling directly to its customers through its online store.
And that is where DHL first came into the picture.
Delivering trust across borders
Sa and Kang understood that a customer’s experience of a SAMO ONDOH creation begins before the product is in their hands. “Before customers even see the product, their first impression comes from the delivery and packaging. An important challenge was building trust with international customers by delivering our products quickly and reliably,” they explained.
As SAMO ONDOH rose in international prominence, overseas interest increased as well.
Their partnership with DHL Express, a globally recognized logistics brand, helped strengthen customer trust. Operationally, working with DHL Express helped the founders easily solve practical shipping challenges from navigating cross-border deliveries.
“DHL has been more than just a delivery partner. DHL made it possible for us to grow as an independent brand by lowering practical barriers as we grew and entered global markets.”
Within a year of launching cross-border shipping with DHL Express, SAMO ONDOH tripled its international sales and saw steady demand from markets including the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
Sa and Kang realized that international logistics was not just an operational necessity; it was an essential part of the SAMO ONDOH customer experience.
“International shipping requires trust and confidence. Safe and fast delivery became part of SAMO ONDOH's brand identity.”
Not just a logistics partner, but a creative one too
From a logistics partnership, an unexpected idea emerged.
Sa and Kang noticed a kinship between SAMO ONDOH’s mission of connecting directly with its customers and DHL’s role in connecting people and businesses across borders. At the same time, they found a creative spark in DHL’s iconic visual identity.
“The bold and energetic image of the DHL logo blended unexpectedly well with SAMO ONDOH’s distinctive humorous and kitschy design language,” they explained. “What began as a functional partnership naturally evolved into a creative collaboration as we discovered common ground in each other’s identities and visual languages.”

In August 2025, DHL Express and SAMO ONDOH launched a limited-edition collection, marking DHL Express’s first collaboration with a Korean brand. The collection reimagined DHL’s iconic yellow color palette, logo, and visual language through SAMO ONDOH’s playful design aesthetic. Six limited-edition bags featured in the collection alongside exclusive character keychains, tags, and stickers.
“We were much more satisfied with the results than we had expected!” they shared. “And it was surprising to see that such a conceptual and intuitive creation could emerge from the colors of the bags and the use of the DHL logo.”
The next collaboration
A year after their successful debut collaboration with DHL, SAMO ONDOH launches the follow-up collaboration in October 2026.
Fans can expect both something new and something familiar in their second collaboration with DHL. They shared, “Rather than taking the second collaboration in a completely new direction, we looked at the key elements of the first collaboration that resonated most with customers, what made it meaningful and successful, and developed them further.”
Sa and Kang shared that the upcoming collection introduces the use of fur as a material, to coincide with its autumn launch date, and feature new interpretations of their popular signature Le Belt series.
Needless to say, SAMO ONDOH’s fans will be looking forward to the collection. And for SAMO ONDOH’s founders, they hope that this is a meaningful and useful collection that stays true to their design philosophy of playfulness and practicality. They shared, “We hope this collection will not be something that customers use just for special occasions, but something that adds a little humor and enjoyment to their everyday.”
Same same, but naturally different
When considering the future, SAMO ONDOH stays firmly and confidently committed to connecting with customers around the world who share the “same temperature”.
They also strive to remain true to their Korean roots while continuing to expand the world of SAMO ONDOH freely—to tell the story of SAMO ONDOH in unexpected ways—without being limited to any particular country or region.
More than anything, they hope to continue creating products and experiences that feel natural, playful, and practical in people’s daily lives.
Asked to imagine and describe a SAMO ONDOH bag that encapsulates SAMO ONDOH’s journey, Sa and Kang mused, “If one bag were to carry SAMO ONDOH’s journey, it would hold the 15 years that the two designers have spent together, along with the experience and depth accumulated over that time. And there would still be plenty of empty space—space for the new people and experiences we will encounter in the future, and for the endless possibilities that lie ahead for SAMO ONDOH.”
