Generative AI
Generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) systems are trained to generate new content based on patterns from existing data. When we input a prompt into the system, it uses machine learning and deep neuron techniques to generate outputs that mimic human creativity. The most common types of outputs are text, images, video, and audio.
Another concept relevant to Generative AI is Interactive AI. Unlike the former, commonly used only to generate new content, Interactive AI can interact with users in real-time to provide a personalized user experience. This interaction between machines and humans is made possible by voice commands, gestures, or touch screens. Some current implications of Generative AI are chatbots, virtual assistants, and interactive game characters.
Both types of AI have unique strengths and applications. However, they both present great potential in supply chain and logistics management.
AI is predicted to leverage supply chain resilience by using real-time information to generate forecasts. This process has multiple implications, ranging from demand forecasting, inventory management, to warehouse and route optimization. The key to supply chain optimization will depend on how accurate the predicting capability is.
As AI technology advances, its involvement in the logistics and supply chain industry is expected to grow. Chatbots and virtual assistants continue to advance, AI can quickly and efficiently address customers' queries during their initial online engagement with the company. AI systems, particularly Interactive AI, could serve as virtual assistants for logistics service providers during customer interactions.
