Automated Broker Interface (ABI)

Available in
A system that allows customs brokers to directly exchange electronic information with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency.

As a part of the Automated Commercial System, the Automated Broker Interface (ABI) is available to all participants who want to import their goods into the United States (U.S.). Currently, over 96 percent of all entries to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection are sent through ABI.

To use this, customs brokers need to download ABI software, allowing them to submit and monitor their customs filings, calculate duties, and manage customs documentation.

At its core, ABI simplifies customs procedures by allowing the electronic submission of essential documents such as invoices, product information, and shipping details. This digitalization minimizes delays in the flow of goods across U.S. borders, which translates to reduced holding costs and optimized supply chain timelines.

ABI also aids in monitoring cargo movement and acts as a storage facility for shipment data. Through its real-time tracking capabilities, businesses can promptly act on any disruptions or delays in cargo movement.

Businesses can also leverage ABI as a valuable source of historical shipment data. They can analyze trends, optimize routes, and make informed decisions contributing to their long-term strategy.

To enhance supply chain visibility and efficiency, ABI is expected to further integrate with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain, which will adapt ABI to grow and improve as an essential tool for international trade.
