6 UNBEE-LIEVABLE FACTS ABOUT BEES

Honeybees and bumblebees often live in hives or nests. But some bees also live in marshes, sand dunes, wetlands, quarries, and even post-industrial land.

1. HONEY, I'M HOME

1 out of 3 of our food depends on pollinators such as bees. Crops that depend on pollination are five times more valuable than those that do not.

2. BUSY BEES

If you find a bumblebee that appears to be struggling, it may be that it is just resting. If you think the bee is struggling the best thing to do is gently put the bee onto a bee-friendly flower.

3. BRINGING BEE  BACK TO LIFE

Honeybees have a dance move called the ‘waggle dance’. It’s a clever way to tell their nestmates where to find the best source of food.

4. DANCING BEES

If the queen bee dies, the workers can create a new queen bee by selecting a young larva and by feeding it a special food called ‘royal jelly’.

5. QUEEN'S DINNER

Scientists have managed to train buff-tailed bumblebee to score a goal in ‘bee football’ in return for a sugary treat. Also, bees in New Zealand offer lessons in building sustainable supply chains.
