Oil, coal, and natural gas have stubbornly dominated the energy arena for eons, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/commodityinsights\/en\/market-insights\/latest-news\/oil\/062623-fossil-fuels-stubbornly-dominating-global-energy-despite-surge-in-renewables-energy-institute\">accounting for over 80 percent of global energy needs in 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The logistics sector takes the lion\u2019s share of fossil fuel consumption. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1365709\/energy-consumption-global-shipping-industry-by-fuel\/\">8.7 exajoules of energy it consumed in 2021 was derived entirely from fossil fuels<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is where methanol comes in to challenge the dominance of fossil fuels. A simple alcohol that burns cleaner and emits fewer pollutants than fossil fuels, methanol is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhl.com\/global-en\/home\/our-divisions\/global-forwarding\/forwarding-insights\/gogreen\/sustainable-fuels.html\">sustainable fuel<\/a> that could be a game-changer in reducing the logistics industry\u2019s carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<p>Before exploring the potential of methanol, it is important to understand the environmental impact of fossil fuels and why replacing them with sustainable alternatives is essential.<\/p>\n<h2>Focalizing the fossil fuel problem<\/h2>\n<p>Although fossil fuels have long powered the world\u2019s logistical networks, this has come at a great cost to the environment.
